Heading west on I-40 we cruised through parts of the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains. Always stunningly beautiful!
We finally made it to Anchor Down RV Resort on Douglas Lake in Dandridge, TN. Highly recommended by many friends, we made this reservation in December of 2021 and originally would have had to move to different sites everyday, since it is always very busy. Luckily, a month before our trip, they called and were able to find 1 site for our whole stay. Built on a couple of hills overlooking Lake Douglas, we found some beautiful lake view sites we would like to stay at next time we visit. We are pretty sure we would need to make the reservation at least a year in advance. It is a very popular place to camp! They have a pool with a slide overlooking the lake, water toys on the lake and slides built into the hill that have you land in the lake, a food truck, arcade and an ice cream shop across the street. 15 minutes from Pigeon Forge, we ate lunch at the Old Mill Restaurant for a second time. Cute little shops and of course, the picturesque Old Mill Wheel and surrounding sites. We enjoyed a day at the Dollywood Splash Country Water Park. What was great about this ticket to the water park was that it included a free meal. What a great marketing tool and a way to make the park budget friendly. We felt like kids again, running around the park barefoot having fun on the lazy river, wave pool and various slides. We had a total blast!
Our next stop in Tennessee was Elm Hill RV Resort on Percy Priest Lake in Nashville. The site we chose was on a peninsula where we decided to pull in headfirst for a wonderful view of the lake. We spent our time in the area with good friends Michael and Tad, who live in a beautiful home in Murfreesboro, 30 minutes from our park. To celebrate July 4th, our 23rd year anniversary (goodness, where has the time gone???) the boys took us out for dinner at Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill in Nashville. Simply delicious! After dinner we walked around the bustling and loud Broadway street with all the bars blaring music and the city getting ready for its self proclaimed “best fireworks in the Nation”. We had a wonderful weekend with our friends and can’t wait to see them again for Thanksgiving.
Georgia here we come! The next stop of the “Upscale RV Resorts” itinerary was Camp Margaritaville in Lanier Lake, north of Atlanta Ga. This was the first location that actually made us feel as though we were camping. We were amongst the beautiful pine trees on a mountainous lakefront site with our very own private beach. The weather was perfect to float on the lake and enjoy the smells of the mountains. We rented a pontoon boat to do some exploring and more relaxation on the water. Lanier Lake and Islands is huge and an awesome destination. We were not sure how it was related to Margaritaville because the only thing that was familiar was Landshark Landing that included a bar and grill and a small water park on the property. We were surprised not to see a Margaritaville Hotel and restaurant. We decided to forgo the water park since there was no lazy river, a must for us!
Our next excursion will be spent on the Alabama/Florida panhandle and gulf coast of Florida, doing what we do best…. enjoying the beach and getting tan.
Sounds beautiful! Maybe next time do a lazy River rv tour!! Stay safe!
Sounds like a great idea! When will we see you again?
