Could Our Hale make it through the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range to Lake Tahoe? Yes she can… Our second trip included Sallie’s mom Norma and her dog Dollie. We experienced our first night of boondocking (no hook ups) at Campground by the Lake and realized it caused too much anxiety for Sue. This was due to our full size house refrigerator requiring 120 volts a.c. and an insufficient on board inverter. Luckily, we have an 8000 watt generator and we survived the night.
We took mom to the Red Hut for breakfast on our first morning and while there met a guy named Ed. It turned out he was there for the weekend at his vacation home at Tahoe Keys. He asked us what our plans were and we mentioned we wanted to take the M.S. Dixie Paddleboat to Emerald Bay. To our surprise, he offered to take us out on his personal 37′ Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser. We gladly accepted. That afternoon, he took us on a scenic cruise to Emerald Bay with a stop at the Beacon Beach Bar for rum runners and iced tea. This day turned out to be the highlight of our trip. And to Ed, his “random act of kindness” will never be forgotten.
After 3 days, we moved to an RV Park at Zephyr Cove for 5 more days. We visited the beach everyday, went on some hikes and watched many beautiful sunsets over Lake Tahoe.
We (including our cats) absolutely love camping amongst the many squirrels and beautiful pine trees. We can still smell them…
