Welcome y’all… to the South!

We spent a couple of weeks in South Carolina and Georgia.  We parked the RV at a resort in Myrtle Beach that was exactly 100 steps from our front door to the wide open beach. We absolutely loved it! The resort also had a lazy river and big swimming pool that we enjoyed.  Aside from some shopping, we had some good down time soaking up the sun at the beach.  We went to dinner at a huge mall and lake called Broadway at the Beach.  We fed some fish which turned into a complete feeding frenzy.  They were jumping on top of each other to get at the fish food.  We also spent Friday night downtown and went for a ride on the Sky Wheel.

We were then off to Charleston SC.  We took a Harbor Cruise and saw Ft. Johnson and Ft. Sumter from the water.  This was our only view since we could not visit due to the government closure.  We also cruised under the beautiful Ravenel Jr. Bridge, the entrance to Charleston.  The next day, we went for a ride on a horse drawn carriage through the city learning more about the settlers, the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, slavery and the architecture.

Our next southern stop was Savannah Georgia.  After lunch at Paula Dean’s Restaurant, we went on a walking tour of the city.  We saw the town square and house where Forrest Gump and Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil were filmed.  The historic town of Savannah was simply beautiful where every street had huge live oak trees filled with Spanish moss.  We really liked everything about Savannah, maybe even the next hometown for a couple of vagabonds.  We drove to the Historic Site of Wormsloe that consisted of 400 live oak trees with Spanish moss.  This street was absolutely breathtaking!   We also spent a day on Hilton Head Island and found it very charming.  We visited Tybee Island too, which was very quirky.

Back at the coach, our cats worked so hard watching the squirrels, birds and playing with each other that they just pass out at times.  The newest fascination is the washer and dryer.

Over the next month, we will be in Florida heading down the Atlantic Coast and up the Gulf with a stop off at a few beach towns, Key West for Halloween and to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahama’s for Sue’s birthday. More to come…
