Our next destination was New Braunfels Texas.
After spending too much money on souvenirs and snacks at Buc-ee’s, an oversized Texas road trippers paradise, Sallie’s friend Stacye visited us from Houston to spend the night. She took us to a quaint old German town called Gruene (pronounced Green) where we had dinner at the Gristmill River Restaurant overlooking the Guadalupe River.
The next morning, we fortified ourselves with a stop at Naegelin’s Bakery for a sugar and caffeine breakfast… mmmm! Our day with Stacye was spent toobin’ down the Comal River. We stopped at Chuck’s Tubes (thanks to a Groupon) to pick up our tubes and a cooler and headed down the river. The river is spring fed but low due to the drought in Texas and was slow movin’ at first, but very relaxing. The chutes were as fun as Sallie remembered them from her childhood.
Ahh… to be a kid again! Oh ya’, we were kids again and ran around all day in our bathing suits and barefoot going down every single waterslide at the Schlitterbahn Water Park. What a blast! ! !
We then took off to Garner State Park in Concan Texas. This was the first state park that we camped at and actually felt like we were camping. We were right on the Frio River where we floated on noodles for an afternoon following a rugged hike on Baldy Trail. And what a view from the top…
Silly was entertained throughout our stay…
Our last night, we finally enjoyed a bonfire while viewing our outside entertainment center….. hahaha!
