To the Pacific Northwest… Oregon

As we continued our travels along the Pacific coast, we visited the Sea Lion Cave just north of Florence Oregon. This is considered America’s largest sea cave and is a wildlife preserve where sea lions come and go as they please.

Our next stop was the town of Tillamook. No one can visit here without a tour of the Tillamook Cheese Factory. The samples were pretty awesome too!

The furthest north we could travel in Oregon was to Astoria. We camped at Fort Steven’s State Park located at the mouth of the Columbia River. This fort was constructed by the U.S. Army toward the end of the Civil war and remained active through World War II, to guard the mouth of the Columbia River. At the very end of the main road is The South Jetty, where you are at one of the historically most dangerous bars in the world. Over 2000 large ships and 700 lives have been lost here, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Columbia River. It is known as the “Graveyard of the Pacific”.

We arrived in Portland and were happy to visit Sallie’s step sister Elizabeth and her husband Robert. She took us to a nearby trail for an awesome walk… green green green!

We spent one day east of Portland at the Columbia River Gorge. We hiked and saw over 5 beautiful waterfalls.

Love your blog and your pictures! Herb and I travelled the OR coast about four years ago and actually briefly visited the falls area east of Portland. Love Oregon and want to go back to see more. Anxious to see where your travels take you. I’m meeting Rhonda and Dana in Vegas this week. Can’t wait to see them!

Hi Connie… Oregon was so beautiful and green even though it rained a lot. We loved the Columbia River Gorge. We are in Seattle now heading to Canada for the next 6 weeks. We appreciate the comments on the blog. Have a great time in Vegas! We know you will!

Did you think about me in Tillamook?
How does the process differ from the creameries around Point Reyes?

Mom… I always think of you. The different kinds of cheeses were really good there. Thanks for commenting on the blog. Will be in touch.
      Love Sallie
