The Pacific Northwest… Washington State

Our first stop into Washington State unfortunately consisted of rain and poor visibility. We drove to the Forest Visitor Center at Mount St. Helens and chatted with a woman who lived over 30 miles away when the mountain erupted in 1980. She lost her home due to the mudslide that infiltrated the whole area. The pictures show the flow area that is now 150 feet higher than before the eruption.

We continued north to our next stop… Seattle. You cannot visit Seattle without a walk through the Pike Place Fish Market. We were lucky to be there in time for the Copper River Sockeye Salmon feast. The best salmon ever! We also visited the very first Starbuck’s. There are over 600 of them in Seattle alone!

We drove down to Mt. Ranier, since we were unable to see it on our way up I-5 due to the weather. Absolutely beautiful! We enjoyed a picnic lunch on the river and hiked the area.

Part of our stay was north of Seattle at Lake Pleasant’s RV Park. We had a lake view and enjoyed feeding the geese.

We took a side trip to Snoqualmie Falls. This is where the show “Twin Peaks”, back in the 80’s, was filmed, and we had lunch at the lodge.

To end our stay, we had to play tourist and go to the Seattle Needle and Chihuly Garden & Glass. Amazing!!!
