The Mighty 5… #3 Capital Reef N.P.

On our way from Durango Colorado to Torrey Utah (Capital Reef), we drove by the northeast side of Lake Powell (Bullfrog) over the Colorado River canyon. It was obvious we were back in Utah by the awe-inspiring views.

We missed the Red Rock Women’s Music Festival by one day… ugh! But got in some beautiful hikes in the park, through a dry wash to a gorgeous natural arch called Hickman Bridge (arches seem to be the theme for this trip).

In Capital Reef N.P. there is the “town” of Fruita, which was an early Mormon settlement. They planted lots of fruit trees that still give fruit, so we had to go apple, pear, and plum picking. The big treat was the Utah Symphony performing in The Mighty 5. We were lucky to be in Capital Reef for their first concert. It sprinkled just enough to give us a beautiful rainbow in the background of the stage overlooking the red rocks.

Onto our next stop on our tour of The Mighty 5…#4 (and our favorite) Bryce N.P.
