We took the bike off the lift in Bryce and drove Highway 12 on the Harley. A road we have been wanting to ride for years. It is one of the quintessential Harley rides every rider must do at least once in their life. The road at one point is a 14% grade, illegal nowadays, but a blast to ride on. There was a brief stretch where the road literally sat on top of a sheer cliff that was 2 lanes wide!! You could see down both sides of the road.
At a visitor center stop in the town of Escalante we were given directions to a Slot Canyon near the town of Boulder. “Turn right at the Boulder Grill and drive 11 miles where there will be a pull out, walk across the wash and you’ll see the slot”. It was very cool to be in our first slot canyon, little though it was. We met a couple that was getting married there in a few weeks, what a beautiful and peaceful place to be joined together surrounded by the strength of the mountain and peacefulness of nature.
And beyond…about 30 more miles to the end of the paved road that leads to the beginning of the Grand Staircase, where you can actually see the walls of the ancient sea, volcanic activity and lift of the earth that defines this area.
