Today is July 10th, 2013… and in 18 more days, we (Sue & Sallie) take off for the first leg of our RV adventure. This first trip will take us 5 months and will be full of visits with friends, volunteering at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab Utah and exploring parts of the U.S. that we’ve never experienced before. A big birthday will also be celebrated at the Atlantis in the Bahamas.
But first, let us go back a little… For years, we seriously considered moving to Oahu Hawaii as our next “life” adventure. In the last couple of years, we have made life style changes in our physical health and want to be more active and nature focused. So what better way: to hike, bike, motorcycle and have 2 oceans to play on with the United States as a backyard and travel with our family of cats in an RV.
We spent months and months laboring over finances, comparisons of gas and diesel rigs, Hawaii vs. RV’ing and what about mom? What do we do with the house? What about the cats? When will all of this happen??? We spent that time driving to RV dealerships around Northern California (Manteca to Sacramento to Davis to Fairfield to Cordelia) and back again. And then, we found the RV of our dreams right in our own backyard of Dublin. The Thor Tuscany FX Class A 40′ diesel pusher OUR HALE (home in Hawaiian).
We spent many excited days and nights getting Our Hale packed, repacked, cleaned up, polished, cats acclimated and road tested up the coast at Bodega Bay/Point Reyes and up the mountains to Lake Tahoe in different camping trips.
We have had so many new things to learn about this new lifestyle, only scratching the surface!
This blog will be fun for us, to share our (mis)adventures with all of you as we traverse the U.S. and Canada over the next many years.
So ladies… start your engines!
