After 6 glorious weeks in Canada, we are now back in the United States. Waterton/Glacier National Peace Parks are the only parks where the U.S. and Canada share a national park. We got to spend time in both East and West Glacier. We took a boat ride on the St. Mary lake seeing waterfalls, glaciers, eagles, osprey and the beautiful east mountains of the park.
In East Glacier we visited Many Glacier Hotel, had a wonderful dinner and attended a multi-media artist in residence lecture who is a musician and composer and writes orchestral pieces about the national parks. It was very interesting.
Heading to West Glacier, we had to take the southern route. Unfortunately, the “Going to the Sun” road was still closed due to snow at Logan’s Pass. We would have not been able to drive over the pass anyway, since the longest a vehicle can be is 21 feet due to the many tight turns. Pulling the Honda Pilot, we are over 60 feet long. We stayed at a lovely campground in West Glacier and were able to hike the Trail of the Cedars and hike to Avalanche Falls. Both were simply beautiful. We also finally made time to relax around the fire and roast some marshmallows and make some yummy s’mores.
I love reading your blog! Banff and Glacier National Park are high on my list of points to visit. Enjoyed reading about your Calgary days. The company I worked for bought a company in Calgary so I was there in downtown Calgary on business several, times. Look forward to your next posting! Where, oh where, will you be next time!
Hi Connie… Thanks for reading our blog. We appreciate the feedback. We just left Yellowstone and are now in Jackson Hole. Hope you had a great time in Alaska. We’d love to hear about it.
