We finally made it to Sallie’s home state of Texas! And the first welcome sign was a huge splat on the windshield…. they sure grow ’em big here y’all.
Welcome to TEXAS!!!
Our first stop was in the town of Amarillo. We had to stop for dinner at the Big Texan Ranch Steakhouse where they serve the 72 oz. steak. Eat it in 60 minutes and it’s free. Something neither of us could fathom.
Our second stop was in Dallas to visit Sallie’s cousin Daphne. It was great to spend time with her.
The highlight of visiting Texas was Sallie’s high school reunion in her hometown of Houston. Sallie attended HSPVA (High School for the Performing and Visual Arts) where she played the cello in the schools symphony orchestra. The reunion was a hit with about 50% attending.
The weather in Houston was unbelievable… a thunder and lightening storm blew in, and wrecked havoc with trailer awnings dumping horizontal rain while 60 mph winds knocked the power out and blew over within 15 minutes.
The Lake View RV Park in Houston has been by far, the nicest resort we have stayed at. With a 5 acre lake, swimming pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs and several barbecues, we loved it there.
We also got to visit with Sallie’s aunt Loraine and met cousin Alex and his wife Josie. We spent the day shopping and catching up.
Goodbye from Houston for now… we are off to New Braunfels Texas.
