We have hit the road once again for a fun summer trip with our friend Ruth (Sallie’s H.S. friend who recently purchased a Thor Compass RV) and AJ (a.k.a. Ellie, our daughter/niece), before she goes off to her first year of college. Our 2019 travels will take us to some new states we have never visited before. Our first stop was in Biloxi Mississippi. We toured the Jefferson Davis home, some casinos and ate at some good seafood restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed being there with our wonderful tour guides and friends Curtis and Jonathan Waagner. The devastation here and in Gulfport from Katrina in 2005 is still evident with lots of barren land. The Katrina Memorial was very moving.
Traveling through Mississippi, Louisiana and crossing over the Mississippi River brought us to Hot Springs National Park and Little Rock Arkansas. We checked out the Bill Clinton Library and the Heifer International Corporation in Little Rock. In Hot Springs NP we enjoyed some time relaxing in the baths fed from a constant 143 degree hot spring. The vintage bath houses were awesome to see. All over town, there were free water spigots for anyone that may be thirsty (but beware, the water is 100 degrees).
In Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the first thing we saw as we entered our RV park was an oil rig (so sad… they were everywhere in Oklahoma). Touring the Oklahoma City Bombing Museum & Memorial on the 24 year anniversary was heartfelt.
On to our next stop, Taos New Mexico, to connect with Ruth.
Looks like you’re having a blast! I’ve always been intrigued by Mississippi.
How were the roads as you crossed MS and AR?
Anxious to hear about your travels …see you when you come back to Aztec.
Hi Ralph & Bob… The roads were no problem at all. There was a whole lot of flooding on our way to Oklahoma City, not on the roads however. We just arrived at Bryce Canyon and the temps are suppose to drop to freezing tonight… wah! We hope you are enjoying our Blog.
