Walt Disney World

After excitedly waiting for many months, the time had finally come for the arrival of our surrogate daughter Ellie (Sallie’s cousin Kris’ daughter… and our daughter too :)). She just promoted from 8th grade in Yuba City and is spending a whole month with us starting at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida and ending up in Washington DC for the 4th of July. We stayed at the RV park on Disney property called Fort Wilderness.

Our first day at the parks, we took advantage of the extended hours in the a.m. and the p.m., at Magic Kingdom. Sallie and Ellie enjoyed many of the rides, where the highlight for Sue was at night watching the Electric Light Parade. This brought back many memories for Sue, her favorite parade years ago at Disneyland. We ended up having a long 14 hour magical day!

Our next park was Epcot. We traveled to space, took a “test drive” on our custom designed vehicle hitting 60 mph, and saw many different lands through the countries. This included Germany, where we enjoyed beer and pretzels and a wonderful dinner in England at the Rose & Crown Pub. The evening brought magical colors over the lake watching the Illuminations Reflections of Earth show.

We then ventured out to Animal Kingdom and rode the Expedition Everest and Dinosaur Ride, and The Kilimanjaro Safari Tour, which was the highlight of the day.

Our last Disney World park was at Hollywood Studios where we enjoyed more rides, live action stunt shows and the laser/water show called Fantasmic.

No down time for us… we were then off to Downtown Disney to spend time at Disney Quest, the 5 story interactive gaming center and had a wonderful dinner at Planet Hollywood.

We now understand what summer is like in Florida. With the humidity and heat index causing temperatures into the triple digits, it was finally time to cool off a bit. We spent one day at Blizzard Beach Water Park and two days at Typhoon Lagoon. Most of that time was floating down the lazy rivers and trying to body surf in the 6 foot wave pool. We had a blast! What an awesome time we had at Walt Disney World!!!
