We had a good week in H-Town (Houston), staying again at our favorite RV Park, Lakeview. We spent time with Sallie’s H.S. friends, Keith, Andrew and with Ruth and her girls, working out and of course shopping. We spent a day in Galveston eating po-boys and enjoyed a fundraising event at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft with Sallie’s aunt Loraine, cousin Alex and his wife Josie, called “Empty Bowls”, to help the homeless.
In New Orleans, we went back to Ponchatrain Landing RV Park and spent several days in NOLA. We spent time in the French Quarter eating beignets, drinking hurricanes and walking the Garden District. We had a resident alligator in the lake in front of our coach, spent time loving our babies and hanging at the pool. We also went back to Villalobos Pitbull Rescue Center where we took a tour and went out for evening walks with the dogs on 2 different nights (and for those who watch the show “Pitbulls & Parolees”, we saw one of the twins Moe, daughter Mariah and ex-parolee Earl).
In Mobile Alabama, we met up with Sallie’s mothers cousin, Binky (his wife Sarah, son Warren and his wife Melinda). This was a very nice Memorial Day weekend with the Helmer family. We spent Saturday morning together over breakfast and enjoyed the local farmers market. We then toured the USS Alabama.
On Sunday, we met up with Sallie’s cousin Daphne and her BFF Stephanie in Pensacola, Florida (a long way from flooded Dallas) for a fun day on the beach, with the “Return of the 6s and 7s” reunion.
We landed next at Camp Gulf RV Park in Destin Florida. This is our favorite type of RV park, right on the beach. We were located on the Florida panhandle (The Emerald Coast) where the waters are blue/green and the sand is the softest white sand ever. We truly enjoyed the 80 degree water here and pulled out the boogie board. Sue was smiling ear to ear riding some waves. We went out for dinner our last night on the coast and chowed down on some chargrilled oysters. They were delicious!
Next stop…playtime in Orlando!
