New England

After our busy and hurried week in NYC, we were ready for a bit slower pace and some nature. As we headed over the George Washington Bridge, we realized life in the Big Apple was certainly not cheap. The fee to cross the bridge in the motorhome with Jeep in tow, was an astonishing $76.00. We could not believe it! This is by far the most expensive toll bridge we have ever crossed in our travels. And, hopefully the last. We also could not believe the fee for big rigs was $95.00! Unbelievable!!! Providence Rhode Island was our next stop. We were only there a couple of days for some relaxation, on our way to Maine.

After we arrived in Portland Maine, we decided to take in the lake view site we had, walk the town in search for a good lobster roll and the ocean lighthouse.

The “Maine” event! We have been wanting to return to Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park, Cadillac Mountain. The last time we were here, it rained cats and dogs and we missed everything (except the lobster). This time we were able to get in some hiking and driving through the NP.  We really enjoyed stopping at different overlooks and going to the top of Cadillac Mountain.

We remembered the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound, with the boiling pots of lobster out front. Truly the most delicious and cheapest in town. We did our fair share of comparisons.

We were excited to get out and hike the perimeter of Jordan Pond. It was a lovely morning and the path was really different with a rock levee at one end, and a raised wooden platform to preserve the woods at the other end. We were rewarded at the end of the hike with lunch at the Jordan Pond Restaurant complete with the famous popovers and jam. Sue had a lobster roll (big surprise, huh?) and Sallie had a summer risotto with summer squash and parmesan.

We spent Saturday morning with our friend, Jeni, (from our volunteering trip to Zambia Africa), and her boyfriend James at the Winter Harbor Lobster Fair and Boat Races. It was a relaxing small town craft fair with the infamous Lobster Boat Races, where locals rack up points in these races for big time bragging rights for the year.

The beautiful Acadia NP coastline. Is there anything more to say?

We drove to Bass Harbor Lighthouse and then hiked the rocks to get some really good pictures of both sides of the lighthouse. We really enjoyed our driving, hiking and lobster eating tour of Bar Harbor, Maine.
